Bishop Michael Stead

Bishop Michael Stead has been the Anglican Bishop of South Sydney since 2015. Michael holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of New South Wales, is an honours graduate of Moore College with a Bachelor of Divinity and a Diploma of Ministry and was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy by the University of Gloucestershire in 2007.

Dr Stead has extensive experience in Anglican church affairs nationally and internationally, and is the Sydney Diocesan spokesperson on Religious Freedom. He is the Chair of the NSW Faith Affairs Council, a body created by the NSW Government to advise it on the impacts of government policy on faith communities, and to work with the government to enhance social cohesion and well-being.  He is also the chair of Freedom for Faith. He works closely with religious leaders from a range of Christian denominations and other faith to advocate with government for freedom of religion for people of all faiths and none.

He is married to Felicity, and the couple have three adult children.
