Emilie Wiggers facilitates community development initiatives in Lake Macquarie City. With a passion for social justice, Emilie continues to support the strengths of the community to respond to their needs by understanding we go further together. Emilie’s portfolio includes areas of multiculturalism, homelessness and mental health as well as supporting the local community services sector. Emilie has over ten years’ experience working with people of a multicultural background including areas of refugee settlement casework, ESL homework centres, volunteer coordination, mental health and disabilities.
In 2019, Lake Macquarie City Council delivered a Stories of Strength project in collaboration with Outloud and ABC News to raise the visibility of people from a multicultural background and their experiences to the broader community. Lake Macquarie City seeks to aim for best practice in ensuring a welcoming and inclusive community for all. Emilie looks forward to sharing any learnings from the Stories of Strength project with attendees at the Welcoming Cities Symposium.
