James Jegasothy is the Deputy CEO of Multicultural NSW leading the Community Development Division.
James has had an inspiring journey. Coming to Australia as a refugee has driven his personal passion to achieve equitable outcomes for vulnerable communities. He has now had more than 20 years of experience in advocating for culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
James has held senior leadership roles in government as well as in the for-purpose and the community sectors. His most recent role was as Executive Director at the Office of Multicultural Interests (OMI) in Western Australia. He is also the Board Chair of Rise Network, a Board Director of the WA Child and Adolescent Health Service, and Commissioner on the Anglican Social Responsibilities Commission.
James has been the State Program and Stakeholder Coordinator at the Australian Red Cross, Vice Chair of the Centre for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Detainees, Secretary of the Ethnic Communities Council of WA and the WA State Manager of Welcome to Australia (now Welcoming Australia).
