Muzafar Ali is a storyteller, educator, and advocate whose work sits at the intersection of refugee experience, community building, and social change. Born in Afghanistan and having lived as a refugee in Indonesia, Muzafar co-founded the Cisarua Refugee Learning Centre — a grassroots education initiative that emerged from lived necessity and grew into an internationally recognised model for community-led learning.
Now based in Adelaide, Muzafar works across education, policy, and the arts, drawing on his own story to examine how narrative shapes identity, belonging, and the possibilities we extend to one another. His work as a filmmaker and researcher explores how the stories we tell — about refugees, about Australia, about who belongs — can either reinforce or reimagine the world we inhabit.
