Renee King was born in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, and raised in the remote jungle communities of Kimbe and Popondetta. Culturally and linguistically, Renee is Motu Koitabu, with ancestral ties to Tubusereia Village in Central Province. These early experiences grounded her in community, culture, and collective responsibility, shaping a lifelong commitment to creating spaces where people feel connected, valued, and empowered.
Renee is the Founder of QPNG Gold Netball Club Inc, a community-led sports club established to support the development of Papua New Guinean women and girls through sport in South-East Queensland. Guided by the belief that sport can be a powerful vehicle for confidence, leadership, and belonging, Renee went on to study a Master’s Degree in Development Practice (Community Development) and brings a strong track record of designing and delivering impactful, place-based initiatives across four regional and remote Local Government Authorities.
In Western Australia, she managed the Morawa Youth Centre, where up to 50 young people regularly attended each opening, demonstrating her ability to create safe, welcoming, and youth-led spaces. In the Atherton Tablelands, Renee strengthened her governance expertise by leading both a Youth Advisory Committee and an Inclusion Advisory Committee, supporting advocacy to government on regional priorities in the youth and disability sectors. Most recently in the Western Downs, Renee has led the development of a community- and industry-led collective impact initiative, supported by government, focused on long-term, evidence-based outcomes.
Bringing people together around shared purpose, and nurturing small groups of aligned changemakers, is the work Renee continues to refine, guided by care, collaboration, and a deep respect for community-led solutions.
