Susana has over 20 years of experience in community development, policy and management both in Australia and in Hong Kong. Her special interests and expertise include leadership training, multicultural policy, community development, volunteer management and social inclusion. Susana is currently the Program Manager for the City of Sydney’s multi award winning International Student Leadership and Ambassador Program and a range of programs that promote social cohesion in the City of Sydney. Susana arrived in Sydney in 1998 as an international student to pursue a Bachelor of Social Work at UNSW. She also holds a Masters of Management from UTS. During Covid-19, Susana has been a strong advocate both within the City of Sydney and outside of the organisation to ensure equitable services and support for international students, refugees and asylum seekers. She has convened a project coordination group to coordinate support for international students, empowering international student leaders to participate in the decision making process and supporting them to deliver 17 events to support international students in their health and wellbeing, linking them to support services and advocating for a co design approach with service users in policy and services. In response to the rising racism in the communities, and the lack of safe spaces for people of colour in the workplace and in the community to talk about racism, Susana convenes the NSW Anti-Racism Working Group to work collaboratively with Local government, NGO colleagues to identify challenges and strategies to address both interpersonal racism and systemic racism.
